Elements to Include in my Webpage - Planning

Element you need to include
Explanation of what you are going to include
Included
Original images
- Images of the artist are going to be used on the webpage to make them the central focus point of the websites branding.
- The originality of the images in crucial in making them unique for the audience experience on the webpage, as using ordinary images from the internet will not have the same effect as they won’t successfully promote the artist and be interesting for the audience.
- These images will be original as they are uniquely of the artist and aim to promote them and their music, I have been looking at how other websites of the dance genre promote their artist through images on the website and I will employ my knowledge from these websites to successfully create original images with this intended promotion.
- Prior to taking these photos, I will strongly be considering the mise-en-scene of these images in the artists costume and location, as well as considering using props within the images, while ensuring that they are relevant to the branding and what the artist promotes.
- I will take these images with my artist during the filming of the music video as I will have the appropriate equipment to take successful images which fit the genre of dance.
- As these images will be included on the website, I will also design the images mise-en-scene around the websites themes and colours, to not create a contrasting brand between the website and the images.

At least one other link page
- I will include another page for the website as this will allow an interactive perspective for the audience when using this demo version.
- One of the links I will be creating is for the artists music, as although my target demographic responded in my questionnaire that they typically visit an artist’s website for this reason, having the music webpage will allow me to add links to the other pages on the website with relevance.
- I will connect the home page and the tour dates through using similar themes for both through employing media language in the codes and conventions of the dance genre, such as a similar colour scheme or a similar layout and overall the mise en scene of the page. In incorporating elements of media language, I will also be fulfilling the brief I set out for myself in my statement of intent which I discussed the media theoretical framework.
- For the music page, I will attempt to link this to the dance genre through employing intertextual references in naming other dance artists (e.g. David Guetta as a featuring artist of a song) and also through discussing how the artist is interested in the genre of dance through her music.
- In the webpage, I will allow audience engagement with the artist through having links to social media and also to have images of the artist on twitter engaging with her audience.
- In linking the page to other pages on my website I will draw a link between this and the store buy allowing the audience to buy the artist new album on pre-sale. Also through selling the album I can write about the new album and the artist herself and allow the audience to read about the artist, having a short description about the artist.
- For this page, I will also be using the original images as established before.
YES
A clear brand image
- In the branding of the artist I will be looking at the values that she can promote in both her video and website. For the song ‘Girls Like Girls’, it promotes LGBTQ+ rights in its acceptance of gay and lesbian relationships. Through this, the narrative will link and so will the branding of the website as in some areas I can incorporate the positive message of equality in the artist’s work. This will allow me to establish a positive brand image of the artist and link it to the 16-25 year old demographic who will be open minded to this theme and embrace it with success.

Appropriate Mise-en-scene
- It is crucial that my mise en scene in my webpage fits the stated brief of the dance genre.
- I have researched other dance artists webpages to understand what makes them appropriate for their genre, alongside webpages for other artists to establish what makes them successful.
- In terms of colours, I will have bright colours contrasting with black in order to enforce the genre of dance as this is what is the typical colouring of dance clubs, so establishing this through the webpage will be positive in regards to the mise en scene.
YES
A clear overall image – showing common elements/messages/themes with the video and the webpage
- For the theme and messages that I want the artist to promote, I will find links between the narrative of the video and the branding of the artist, as the narrative links to the song’s lyrics through the lesbian relationship it portrays and the lyrics ‘girls like girls’. In promoting LGBTQ+ values on the webpage, such as through the text stating how the artist works to promote equality through her work. This theme is a crucial element to establish in my webpage.
- The common element would be the use of colour, which will be consistently bold, as in my music video I used gels on the lights to have this bold effect in the visual content, and in the images, I will use this element and in the visual element of my webpage I will do this.

Media language that establishes the artist to the ‘dance’ genre
- I will be establishing how the media text communicates form, codes, conventions and techniques in employing a wide cope of media language into my website.
- The mise en scene of my webpage is crucial for establishing the dance genre. Employing the use of bright neon and bold colours will indicate the genre of the artist alongside copy on the webpage which can easily assist and convey what I will be attempting to establish through my artist.
- I will be attempting to establish the conventions of the dance genre in my research to assist me in allowing me to employ these conventions through my website. I will be referring to this research in my planning of my music video.
- The costume of the artist is essential for the original images I will be taking for my webpage. In this, I will also produce a plan to consider the outfit suitable to fit the dance genre, and do so in researching other female artists of the genre to see how they convey the message of dance through this. From my knowledge, I am aware that loose fitting, cropped clothes are common for the artists so in establishing this in my planning will assist me in conveying these key codes in relation to the dance genre.
YES
Evidence of intertextuality
- I will be referencing the dance DJ David Guetta in my website as through this referencing of a crucial aspect of the dance genre will also assist me in further establishing the dance genre. Through this, I will be creating a single cover for my artist to be on in reference to her working on more music than my song I used for my music video, and furthermore, saying how the artist worked with a well know dance DJ will persuade this element of my genre further.
- Another single which I have created hold the same title as the 2018 film ‘You Were Never Really Here’. In referencing this film on my webpage I will be appealing to my upper demographic of the 16-25 outlined in the brief. In doing so it will be a brief and niche reference, but the appeal to one section of my demographic shows how I have considered their appeal to my artist. Alongside this, the dystopian element of the way the film was created appealed to me as dance uses electronic technology to create many of its sounds, and in bridging this divide will allow me to incorporate an element on intertextuality in my product.
YES
Evidence of hybridity
- For genre hybridity, I will place my chosen song on the website to show how the song is in some ways evidence of genre hybridity. The song ‘Girls Like Girls’ by Hayley Kioyoko is definitely a dance track, but also incorporates the indie genre. This will act as a clear representation of the element of genre hybridity.
- The original images I will be using will also link to the track, as the images I will be taking will fall more towards the indie genre, however in their editing I will place filters over the top of the images to then persuade them to be of the dance genre as these filters will link back to my mise en scene of being bold and bright colours.
YES
Clear evidence that the target market in the brief is being addressed
- At least one website page I will create a working link to will be for music, as the feedback I found that my demographic look at the artist’s webpage to engage with the artist’s music and to also listen to their songs.
- My home page will have one original image, and following from that, my artist’s singles will all be original images and there will be four singles overall. Also in my social media, I will be continuing using original images alongside one main image to establish the branding of my artist as this image will be continuous throughout my webpage, but not be dominating over the rest of the images I will be using.
- The original logo for my artist will also establish the branding of my artist, as the image will be consistent along my media products of my music video and my singles and also my webpage. I will create this logo to the dance genre and also research into how to successfully create this.
- For signing to the Universal Music Group, I have decided that my artist will be signed to Republic Records as this is the most relevant label to the dance brand. I will establish this through placing the Republic Records logo on my singles and on my website to establish this branding of the label.
- For all of this, I will strongly be considering the media language of the product and the dance genre. In this, it will successfully persuade the dance genre.
- The original audio-visual content will see a video from the artist welcoming her fans to her webpage being original audio-visual content, alongside this the background for my home page will be a video, having original video content.
